Vision

Our vision is the full inclusion of women of color and immigrants at all levels of corporate leadership through addressing the largest obstacle to their progress: the “Broken Rung” which refers to the low rate of promotion from entry level to management.

Mission

Our mission is two-fold:

1)     To help one million women of color to achieve promotions (with a special focus on recent immigrants).

2)   To support organizations in diversifying the middle of the leadership pipeline through developing and retaining high-potentials from underestimated groups.

Fix The Broken Rung is the brainchild of Amal Masri, a seasoned marketing executive, keynote speaker and author. As someone who grew up in Saudi Arabia, Amal remembers clearly how challenging it was to navigate her early career in the US and Canada as a “triple outsider” – a woman, a person of color and an immigrant. She recalls how badly she wanted a mentor that “got it,” but there was no one like her at higher levels.

As a people leader who’s built many high-performing teams, she’s a firm believer in tailored career development for underestimated groups. Unique barriers deserve unique approaches. The efficacy of Fix The Broken Rung’s work is a result of data-driven, field-tested, and highly-targeted programming.

Amal has been featured in media outlets that include the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Investment Executive, Global News and Strategy Online. She’s delivered over a 100 keynotes at conferences and events across North America.
